Can you imagine living in a lone lodge situated in a lonely village, at least for a few days? Here you will surely find peace and time for reflection. The lodge is owned by the charismatic sisters Kverh that will fill you with positive energy at your arrival and offer you home made delicacies. These sisters are real storytellers. Their stories also include those about the bears who regularly visit the nearby meadow. The rental of the lodge is a great starting point for exploring the region of Kočevsko, the bear land and the implementation of your activities. The program offers you an authentic experience of the way of life of our ancestors and the opportunity to discover one of the best preserved forest habitats which is exposed to extremely restricted and controlled human interventions.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Meeting with the sisters Kverh and renting the lodge
It will be possible to move in the lodge in the early morning hours. The meeting will be held at the lodge, since there are certain obligations connected with it. There is a large garden in the backyard where you will find everything you need for the next few days, from vegetables to spices. There are no bathrooms in the lodge, but taking a bath in the wooden hot tub is a real experience. Relax is guaranteed. In the evening you will go on a guided observation of bears from hunting observatory with a hunter. If weather conditions are not suitable, the observation will be postponed to one of the following days.
Day 2 - Meet the virgin forest Rajhenavski Rog and the Queen of Rog
In the morning, the Kverh sisters will prepare you the breakfast and feed the animals. They will offer you fresh milk and eggs and deliver the agreed things from Kočevje. They will answer all your questions and leave. We will spend the day discovering the Roška footpaths, the Virgin forest Rajhenavski Rog and hug the Queen of Rog. Later we will visit the Kočevje Lake and the Ribnica museum, where we will learn about the handicraft tradition. We will conclude the day in the honey cellar of the beekeeping Kojek, where we will taste a wide range of varieties of honey, honey products and beverages.
Day 3 – Bloke Plateau and its attractions
After breakfast we will head towards Bloke and where we will embark on a 19 km long Krpan’s trail which connects natural and cultural attractions of the Bloke Plateau. On the Bloke Plateau you can observe carnivorous plants and orchids or refresh at the Lake Bloke in the summer. We will continue towards Cerknica where we will visit the Lake Cerknica with the museum and then return home.

Logistics

The program “Escape to the bear land” starts and ends in the town of Kočevje which is located in the southern part of Slovenia.

Air connection:
There are 3 international airports within a maximum of 2 hours and a half drive (Brnik, Zagreb and Trieste) from Kočevje. We offer organized transfers from all airports. If you are interested please contact us.

Road connection:
Take the highway from Zagreb in the direction of Ljubljana. Leave the highway in Novo Mesto and follow the signs for Kočevje which is located only 50 km away from Novo Mesto. Leave the Ljubljana ring road at the exit for Kočevje which is located 60 km away from Ljubljana.

  • Before the beginning of the program the guide will provide you all the necessary information. Before the beginning of each daily tour the guide will provide you with all the detailed information about the daily program.
