Herzegovina
Coming from the German “Herzog”, meaning duchy, this 10,000 km2 region with a Mediterranean climate is located in the south of the country and a stone’s throw from the Adriatic Sea. It still has access to the sea of around twenty kilometers.
Its most visited city is undoubtedly the fabulous – Mostar, particularly known for its famous bridge. But Mostar does not stop at this single monument, witness to a painful history, there are so many things that will surprise you, notably the descent of the Neretva by rafting, a hike on the peaks to admire both, the Dalmatian islands of Croatia and the Montenegrin mountains, without forgetting a stop at Stolac on the road to Trebinje which curiously immerses you in a Provençal atmosphere with its Orthodox churches and Ottoman minarets as a bonus!
Fine gourmets will be surprised to discover a cuisine that is as refined as it is diverse in terms of its influences, and all with excellent wines made from endemic grape varieties to be tasted, accompanied by a mezé on a beautiful shaded terrace.
This region of the Balkans has conquered minds of many, including John, our expert on this destination who has happily settled there.
