Fancy a change of scenery, a holiday under the sun and near the sea? Then Croatia is the destination for you! It’s ideal for families and has so much to offer that you might be convinced to fly there for a spring break. But before booking your flight, read all about Croatian traditions and dive into our itinerary.

Do Croatians celebrate Easter?

Yes, they do! Croatia is a largely Catholic country and religious holidays are taken very seriously.

Time for a vocabulary lesson. In Croatia, Easter is called Uskrs (yes, you will have to practice the pronunciation on that one). Once the word Uskrs flows perfectly from your lips, you can learn how to say Happy Easter: Sretan Uskrs.

Easter is a fun day for kids because they go to a park to look for eggs or get creative by painting eggs. These become real works of art – no wonder, as parents teach them how to do this at a young age.

All in all, eating chocolate has only recently become a “tradition” in Croatia and shops now sell more chocolate every year at Easter. Egg painting, on the other hand, is a long-standing custom.

Easter is also an opportunity to see family and spend some time with them.

Visit Croatia for Easter? But why?

1. The weather is perfect, neither hot nor cold

At Easter, the days are already starting to get longer. This means that the sun is up, which makes swimming in the Adriatic more than possible.

That’s right, the swimming season in Croatia starts in April, so take a swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic! This isn’t Brittany or the Landes: you don’t need a wetsuit here, just the swimsuit you have put away last summer. Nevertheless, you should be prepared for any kind of weather, even though it’s usually pleasant in April, it can be quite fickle.

Also, there are fewer tourists in April. You’ll have the beaches all to yourself, enjoy the uncrowded islands and be able to enjoy hotels at cheaper rates.

2. Well… Just because you can

Croatia has weathered the COVID-19 crisis pretty well and so restaurants and bars have been open again since March 1, 2021. It’s such a great pleasure to be able to drink a good coffee and eat a delicious meal prepared by a chef again. Masks and barrier gestures are, of course, still mandatory indoors, in shops and museums. Almost everything is open to the public. As we said, Croatia is a family-friendly destination. Waiters, hoteliers, vendors are welcoming and take very good care of families.

To enter Croatia, you must present a negative PCR test for COVID-19 not older than 48 hours upon arrival. Don’t forget to check your country’s precautionary measures regarding travel. We also regularly update information about COVID-19 restrictions on our website, which we invite you to visit.

For this Easter Holiday, we have designed for you a special 8-day holiday trip for spring in South Dalmatia, Dubrovnik and the islands of Mljet and Korcula. It is a total getaway. You will immerse yourself and relax in Croatian nature and culture. Discover, imagine and try our itinerary:

3. We have prepared an itinerary with 3 stops that will simply amaze you

Enjoy a week in Croatia, visit Dubrovnik and two islands of South Dalmatia. Although they are close to each other, these three destinations couldn’t be more different. The proximity is convenient because the time you spend on the road is much shorter, but you’ll still be able to admire the Mediterranean landscapes of South Croatia.

  • First stop: Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic.

This city is so popular that we don’t need to introduce it. It is best to visit it (or come back) in spring, as there are fewer tourists then than in summer. The former Republic of Ragusa lies at the foot of the sea and offers many beautiful palaces and churches to visit.

  • Second stop: Korcula Island, the land of bays and vineyards
  • Third stop: Mljet Island, a wild paradise
  • Return to Dubrovnik, the starting point
